Reduction firing experiments

The ceramic dept. of MOME could spend a week in the International Ceramic Studio of Kecskemét in 2017. We fired three reduction kilns: a saltglaze kiln, a wood kiln and a gas kiln. For most of us, it was the first experience with saltglazing. During this firing method, every piece gets a special orange peel-like glossy glaze - even the unglazed ones. Furthermore, we used different glazes and engobes, so the possibility of experimenting is endless...
Woodfiring also creates unique, warm colors of the glazes. My favorite one is the shino maybe. But I am in love with how the flames and ashes touch the unglazed pieces too.
Gas reduction gives the same appearance to the ceramic glazes and bodies, just without the ash subsidences. This firing process is a bit more computable than wood firing method, but as much delicate and unique.
